The State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) in China has opened a preliminary investigation confirming that Nvidia has violated antitrust laws in connection with the acquisition of Mellanox in 2020. Nvidia's shares fell by 2% in pre-market trading, and the investigation could complicate trade relations between the US and China. The technological tensions between the two countries are rising, and Nvidia has faced recent difficulties in the Chinese market, including export restrictions. CEO Jensen Huang emphasized the importance of sales in China for the artificial intelligence market.
