Deputy Prime Minister David Seymour has announced that psilocybin can be prescribed by an experienced psychiatrist to patients with severe depression. This follows research exploring the effectiveness of psychedelics in psychiatric treatments. Only psychiatrists involved in clinical trials will be allowed to prescribe psilocybin under strict protocols. This follows a similar initiative in Australia, which has authorized the use of hallucinogenic mushrooms for mental disorders.
