The Ministry of Energy announces that gas storage facilities in Romania have reached a fill level of 76.26%, above the EU average

Romania’s natural gas storage facilities are 76.26% full, equivalent to approximately 2.43 billion cubic meters, the Ministry of Energy announced. The level is above the European Union average of 68.26%, while the country must reach 80% storage capacity by October 1.

The information was presented on Tuesday during the Energy Command dedicated to the natural gas sector, coordinated by Secretary of State Cristian Bușoi. Representatives of Transgaz, ANRE, gas producers and suppliers, distribution system operators, and other institutions in the sector attended the meeting.

Operators required to build up reserves confirmed that they are on track to meet the established target. The Ministry of Energy is monitoring storage developments so that Romania enters the cold season with sufficient reserves and safety measures in place to ensure continuity of supply.

Preparations for the 2026–2027 winter are taking place against a difficult European backdrop. Gas prices on the TTF market have reached €83–84/MWh, nearly three times their level at the beginning of the year and the highest since December 2022. The trend is being influenced by geopolitical tensions, problems in the global LNG market, and low European stocks.
