Gas prices reach a record level for this period. A 125% increase in gas prices on the energy exchange

The price of natural gas delivered in Romania exceeded 360 lei/MWh at the beginning of September, the highest level recorded during this period, with the exception of 2022, when the war in Ukraine began. Gas for delivery on September 3 was traded on the Romanian Commodities Exchange at an average price of 359.98 lei/MWh.

The quotation is more than 210 lei/MWh higher than at the end of February, when gas was traded at approximately 150 lei/MWh. According to an analysis by Transgaz, between February 27 and September 7, prices on the BRM increased by 125%, reaching a level nearly 2.5 times higher than seven months ago.

The development is influenced by geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and uncertainties regarding energy shipments through the Strait of Hormuz. The pressure is amplified by the low level of European stocks, which are approximately 67% full, compared with an average of around 83% for this period.
