Transgaz announces that the National Natural Gas Transmission System is stable and ready for the 2026–2027 cold season. Storage facilities are approximately 88% full, and the company estimates that more than 2.8 billion cubic meters of natural gas will be stored by the end of October.
The information was released on Wednesday evening, following the completion of the infrastructure maintenance and winter preparation phase. Transgaz Director General Ion Sterian said that the system is “stable and well balanced” and that the maintenance period has ended.
Approximately 1,500–2,000 employees are involved in inspections, works and operational safety measures. The company says these activities are aimed at maintaining the security of natural gas supply throughout the cold season.
Transgaz emphasizes that expanding national storage capacity is a strategic priority for Romania’s energy security. Larger reserves are expected to increase the system’s resilience and reduce the country’s vulnerability to fluctuations in the natural gas market. Stockpiling and infrastructure preparation are part of the measures carried out ahead of the 2026–2027 cold season.
