Romania will not face gas supply problems next winter, while household consumers will continue to benefit from a regulated price, Romgaz CEO Răzvan Popescu said on Wednesday at the Eurogas conference held in Bucharest.
According to him, Romgaz supplies more than 80% of the gas destined for household consumers. The situation is different, however, for industry and other non-household consumers, which are exposed to European prices and competition for liquefied natural gas between Europe and the Southeast Asian markets.
Răzvan Popescu said that price levels this winter and in the years ahead are influenced by European energy policies and the continent’s dependence on imports. Europe consumed more than 330 billion cubic meters of gas in 2025, while domestic production covers less than 10% of demand.
In this context, the Neptun Deep project and Romania’s onshore production must be treated as strategic assets. First production from the Black Sea field is expected in the first half of 2027, while the maximum level, approximately eight billion cubic meters annually, is expected to be reached by the end of the third quarter of 2027. The total investment is estimated at four billion euros. The concession is operated in an equal partnership by OMV Petrom and Romgaz.
