OMV Petrom and Romgaz, the co-holders of the Neptun Deep project in the Black Sea, estimate that the first gas will enter the National Transport System in the first half of 2027, six months earlier than initially estimated. The production plateau is expected to be reached by the end of the third quarter of 2027.
Annual production at full capacity is estimated at approximately 8 billion cubic meters of gas. The project has recoverable volumes of around 100 billion cubic meters and a plateau production level of 140,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day, maintained for nearly ten years.
Development is proceeding on budget, with investments estimated at approximately €4 billion, shared equally by the two partners. In 2026, the Neptun Alpha production platform and the offshore pipeline were installed, and seven of the ten production wells were completed.
In the next stage, drilling of the remaining wells, installation of subsea infrastructure, connection of the facilities and system testing will continue before commissioning. OMV Petrom and Romgaz officials say the project will strengthen Romania’s energy security and the country’s position in the European Union’s gas production sector.
