Context: before the Transgaz-OMV meeting at ADIPEC, the Neptun Deep project was anchored in the investment schedule and in agreements with the Romanian state
Before the presentation at ADIPEC, the Government insisted that the Neptun Deep project remain a priority, after OMV Petrom and Romgaz announced that they were carrying out the works “according to the established schedule,” with actual production scheduled to begin the following year. Discussions between former interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan and OMV management also addressed coordination between the authorities and the company to continue the investment.
At the same time, the agreement in principle between OMV Petrom and the Romanian state—signed at the end of last year—had not yet been transposed into legislation. The document provides, among other things, for the extension by 15 years of onshore exploitation licenses, a two-year extension of the exploration period for Neptun Deep, and a 40% increase in royalties, while the state would purchase, through ANRSPS, 49.9 TWh of gas from Neptun Deep for seven years.
At company level, OMV Petrom reported that it had invested €5.4 billion of the total €11 billion planned through 2030, and in 2026 the project progressed through the installation of the Neptun Alpha platform and the development of the subsea pipeline and production infrastructure.
