On Wednesday, in the town of Gabes, in southern Tunisia, several thousand people gathered to demand the closure of an outdated chemical products factory operated by the Tunisian Chemical Group (GCT), which locals accuse of causing a series of illnesses and health problems. Following the protest, police forces used large amounts of tear gas. Hundreds of people withdrew, but groups of young people remained, shouting their anger, while several individuals fainted.
