American singer and dancer Maren Wade has filed a complaint in a federal court in California against Taylor Swift and the record label Universal Music Group, accusing the pop star of using the title *The Life of a Showgirl* for her twelfth album, released in October 2025. Wade, who wrote articles titled 'Confessions d’une showgirl' in Las Vegas Weekly, believes that Swift's album title compromises her visibility and affects her career, fearing that she will be perceived as an imitator.
Her lawyer, Jaymie Parkinnen, emphasized that an artist who has built a brand for 12 years should not suffer because of a more well-known artist. The complaint mentions that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office rejected Swift's trademark application due to similarities. Wade is seeking damages and an injunction against Swift's use of the title, but there is also the option for her to later purchase the rights to the trademark. Swift's album has had huge commercial success, selling over 2.7 million copies in 24 hours, but it has also received criticism from fans and journalists.
