A federal judge in New York has overturned a measure by the Trump administration that suspended visas for 75 countries, including Moldova, Afghanistan, Iran, Russia, and Somalia.
This measure was justified by the Trump administration due to concerns that citizens from these states might seek social assistance in the U.S.
The judge ruled that Secretary of State Marco Rubio exceeded his legal authority by issuing this policy, which violates the Immigration and Nationality Act, "the denial of visas to eligible applicants without any legal basis."
The visa suspension measure was challenged by NGOs and 11 affected individuals, including family members who had their visas denied.
