Three archaeological sites in Guatemala - Los Abuelos, Petnal and Cambrayal - have revealed the remains of an almost 3,000-year-old Mayan complex, including sanctuaries and a 33-meter pyramid. These discoveries, part of the Uaxactún Regional Archaeological Project, suggest an important ritual center and provide new insights into the history of the Maya civilization. Archaeologists have also identified a rare canal system inside a palace, highlighting the complexity of Mayan society.
