The French President Emmanuel Macron, the German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and the British Prime Minister Keir Starmer met on Saturday in Johannesburg, on the sidelines of the G20 summit, to discuss the plan proposed by the US for Ukraine. This plan involves the de facto recognition of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions, as well as Crimea, as Russian, which would also imply the reintegration of Russia into the G8 and the lifting of sanctions.
Additionally, Ukraine would need to limit its army to 600,000 soldiers and rely on the protection of European aircraft, without allowing the stationing of NATO troops on its territory. The plan, however, includes security guarantees from the US and European allies. This meeting took place after a previous discussion among the three leaders in Berlin.
