The German Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced on Wednesday in Berlin the proposal for NATO to provide a firm funding commitment for Ukraine during the summit in July in Ankara, to send a clear message of support against Russian aggression.

Merz emphasized that this commitment would highlight European unity and determination to support Ukraine. Additionally, French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed the closeness between Europeans and Americans, stressing the importance of a common position in support of Ukraine's territorial integrity. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer highlighted Russia's weakness on the battlefield and called for the imposition of additional sanctions. In this context, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni reaffirmed support for a lasting peace, while Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk emphasized the need for transatlantic unity ahead of the NATO summit. All these statements underline the strong commitment of European leaders to continue supporting Ukraine.
