British Prime Minister Andy Burnham and American President Donald Trump have agreed to continue efforts for a ceasefire in Ukraine

Andy Burnham and Donald Trump spoke by telephone on Monday about the war in Ukraine and agreed on the need to continue efforts to reach a truce, according to Downing Street. During the conversation, Burnham reaffirmed the United Kingdom’s support for Ukraine and for the peace negotiations coordinated by the United States. The discussion took place amid intensified diplomatic contacts aimed at ending the war launched by Russia.

The two leaders also discussed the situation in the Middle East. The British prime minister stressed the importance of a two-state solution, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. The conversation took place after a series of meetings between American envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff and the leaders involved in the conflict. The two representatives of the Washington administration met on Sunday in Kyiv with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, after discussing the matter in Moscow the previous day with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The contacts are part of US-led diplomatic efforts to secure a ceasefire agreement.
