Kathryn Shiber, a former analyst at Centerview Partners, has filed a lawsuit against the New York consulting firm, alleging disability discrimination following her termination in 2020. Shortly after being hired, Centerview offered her a guaranteed nine-hour sleep window each night to manage a mood disorder and anxiety, in exchange for her constant availability for work. However, after she disconnected from work without notice, Shiber was fired. In the lawsuit, she is seeking back pay and damages, claiming that the termination affected her career. Centerview argues that long working hours are the norm in the industry and that the sleep arrangements would not have been sufficient for Shiber to fulfill her duties. The lawsuit will examine whether nighttime availability is essential for this type of work.
