The fire at the landfill in Orhei broke out more than 24 hours ago, affecting an area of 1,500 square meters.
According to the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU), actions were carried out overnight to prevent the spread of the fire to other areas. The burning from the lower layers complicates the intervention, and to reach the smoldering hotspots, the waste is being spread and compacted.
At the scene, 13 IGSU employees are intervening with three fire trucks, and two bulldozers, four dump trucks, and two tractors with tanks have also been mobilized.
Eight people are involved in operating the machinery and in auxiliary works. The landfill area has a total surface of approximately 5,000 square meters, and IGSU announces that the situation is under control and that the intervention will continue until the hotspots are completely extinguished.
