Firefighters in Iași extinguished a fire that broke out in the load of a waste collection truck

Firefighters from Iași Fire Station 1 responded on Wednesday morning to extinguish a fire that broke out in the load of a waste collection truck. Approximately 500 kilograms of cardboard burned, but no injuries were reported.

The fire was reported via the 112 emergency number. After noticing the flames, the truck driver unloaded the burning waste onto the road to prevent the fire from spreading to the vehicle. The driver tried to extinguish the fire using the available equipment, but was unable to put out the flames.

When the military firefighters arrived, the fire had been localized and was extinguished, eliminating the risk of it spreading. Following on-site checks, representatives of the Iași Inspectorate for Emergency Situations determined that the probable cause was a lit cigarette thrown into a waste collection container. Authorities reported no other damage.
