Sibiu firefighters are responding to a large fire that broke out in a recycling facility in Șura Mică / The dense smoke generated a RO-ALERT message

Sibiu firefighters are responding Thursday evening to a large fire that broke out at the facility of a waste sorting and recycling operator in Șura Mică, near the city of Sibiu. Due to the heavy smoke, the authorities sent an RO-ALERT message to residents of Șura Mică and the city of Sibiu.

According to the Sibiu County Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, the fire is affecting an area of approximately 700 square meters. Crews are working to prevent the flames from spreading and to locate the fire’s focal point, while the operation is ongoing.

Initially, three firefighting vehicles, a water tanker, an SMURD crew and a first-response vehicle were mobilized. The forces were subsequently reinforced with an additional firefighting vehicle and a CBRN vehicle. Two additional firefighting vehicles, as well as a vehicle equipped with robots from the Alba County Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, were also sent to assist.

The authorities are warning about the dense smoke and recommend that people in the affected areas follow the instructions conveyed through the warning message. As of the time of reporting, no information had been provided about any possible victims or the cause of the fire.
