The Railway Reform Authority (ARF) announced the acquisition of 62 regional electric trains RE-R, of which 4, with numbers 009, 029, 048, and 033, are part of Lot 3 of contract no. RUIC 6/2024.

This project, funded by the Modernization Fund, aims to support the use of low-carbon emission technologies in rail transport, contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. The total value of the project exceeds 2.777 billion lei, of which 2.327 billion lei are provided from non-reimbursable European funds. The trains will be available for Transferoviar Călători, and the implementation of the project will take place over a period of 36 months.

Specific objectives include reducing dependence on fossil fuels and decreasing road congestion by promoting rail transport as an ecological alternative.

The project also aims to improve the quality of public rail passenger transport services.
