Daniela Santanchè, the Italian Minister of Tourism, submitted her resignation to the head of the Government Giorgia Meloni, after she publicly asked her to leave her position following the failure in the constitutional referendum regarding the reform of the judicial system.
Santanchè has been under pressure to resign due to an accusation of fraud related to the falsification of the financial statements of her former publishing house. Meloni, who had not previously requested her resignation, decided to part ways with government members facing judicial issues after the major defeat in the referendum. Santanchè denies the accusations and claims her innocence, stating that "my drawer is empty."
Her resignation comes after the Deputy Minister of Justice resigned due to a controversy related to a compromising photograph. According to the Italian Constitution, the Prime Minister cannot dismiss ministers, who are officially appointed by the President of the Republic.
