On Thursday, an Iranian ballistic missile struck the Bapco refinery in Bahrain, causing significant fires at this facility essential to the country's energy sector. The Bahraini Ministry of Interior confirmed the attack, stating that the fire has been extinguished and that material damages are limited, with no reported casualties. The Bapco refinery, located on Sitra Island, is one of the oldest in the Persian Gulf, with processing capacity set to be expanded through a modernization program. Although officials stated that operations continue, the industrial monitor IIR reported the shutdown of two units of the facility, suggesting a possible reduction in operational capacity. This is the first direct strike on Bahrain's oil infrastructure since Iran began reprisals in the region.
