Fragments of a turbojet-powered drone that crossed the airspace of the Republic of Moldova and Romania were discovered outside the village of Mihăilenii Vechi, in Râșcani District. Moldovan police experts determined that the aircraft had characteristics similar to Russian “Geran”-type drones and contained metal balls intended to amplify its destructive effect.

The incident occurred on Tuesday. The drone entered the airspace of the Republic of Moldova from the direction of Ukraine, around 16:20, and approximately 15 minutes later reached Romanian airspace.

Romanian authorities sent RO-Alert messages in five counties in the Moldavia region, while air traffic at Iași Airport was temporarily suspended.

Subsequently, the aircraft returned to the Republic of Moldova and crashed in a field. The impact created a crater and triggered four fires in the sunflower field. No casualties were reported. The area was secured, and authorities asked local residents not to approach. Analysis of the debris is ongoing.

The name “Geran” is used by Russia for kamikaze drones developed based on Iranian technology. Recent models are equipped with jet engines and can reach speeds of up to 450 kilometers per hour.
