Fragments of a drone marked “Geran-4,” a Russian-made model, were discovered in the Briceni district of the Republic of Moldova, approximately 1,700 meters from the state border. The aircraft crashed near the village of Cotiujeni and exploded about 10 meters above the ground after hitting trees.
A Border Police patrol located the area, while experts from the Police Technical and Explosives Division completed the on-site investigation during the night. The explosion damaged trees within a radius of approximately 25 meters.
Investigators found fragments of the fiberglass fuselage, electronic components, cables, power-supply elements, parts of the wings with servomotors and ailerons, as well as a partially damaged turbojet engine. Some components bore the inscription “ГЕРАНЬ 4”. All the parts were sent for examination. The authorities state that no other devices or explosive substances were identified.
The incident occurred amid Russian attacks on Ukraine. On the morning of September 24, four aerial objects violated Moldovan airspace, and two fell on the territory of the Republic of Moldova. Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, the country’s airspace has been violated 81 times by Russian and Iranian missiles and drones, according to the Ministry of Defense in Chișinău.
