A major security incident has affected Gmail users, with over 183 million stolen passwords, according to cybersecurity expert Troy Hunt. The compromised data, totaling 3.5 terabytes, was revealed on his site, Have I Been Pwned, after the breach occurred in April. Users are urged to check if their email addresses have been compromised by accessing the mentioned site and entering their email address.
Those affected are advised to change their passwords and enable two-factor authentication to protect their accounts. Hunt emphasizes that not only Gmail passwords may be compromised, but also those from other sites, making it essential to use different passwords for each account. Expert Graham Cluley recommends using a password manager to securely manage this information. As of now, details about the criminals behind this security breach are unknown.
