Germany has announced a funding package of 150 million euros for Ukraine, intended for the purchase of weapons, through the Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) initiative. The German Minister of Defense, Boris Pistorius, made this announcement after the meeting of the Group of Five (E5) in Berlin, where issues related to Ukraine's security were discussed. The PURL initiative, launched in July, involves 17 allies who will buy weapons from the USA to transfer to Ukraine, ensuring a steady flow of military support. Pistorius emphasized that the German Parliament has approved a budget of 11.5 billion euros for Ukraine in 2026, a significant increase compared to previous plans. He also mentioned the challenges Ukraine faces in the face of winter and highlighted the importance of coordination against hybrid threats from Russia, including drone attacks. Germany will continue to invest in the Ukrainian defense industry and will propose joint purchases of anti-drone defense systems at the next E5 meeting.
