Germany's Economy Ministry has called for an analysis of the feasibility of creating a state-controlled strategic gas reserve similar to US oil reserves. Currently, most deposits are managed by private companies, which has led to difficulties in replenishing them. Germany, which has some of the largest gas deposits in Europe, is looking for ways to support the industrial sector, which is crucial to the economy. Other EU countries such as Italy and Austria already have state gas reserves and Germany is considering options such as underground caverns for storage.
