The move is the second mass expulsion of Afghan nationals since the Taliban's return to power in 2021 and the first under the new German executive, which is promising a tougher approach to migration. The deportations were carried out with the support of Qatar, and all of those expelled had been under the judicial authorities' scrutiny. The German government plans to continue such deportations in the future as part of a tougher policy towards asylum seekers.
