The French government has agreed with the European Commission to unblock investments in hydropower plants, facilitating the expansion of renewable energy production capacities.

The agreement will allow the Electricite de France (EDF) group to invest in hydropower plants, thus increasing the production of renewable energy and its storage. Prime Minister Francois Bayrou announced that the way has been opened for the relaunch of investments in hydropower dams. The European Commission has asked France to amend its legislation, and now a draft law will be developed for the implementation of the reform, excluding hydropower plants with special status operated by Engie.
