The Ministry of Environment in Vietnam reported that the death toll from the severe flooding has reached 90, and another 12 people are missing. The heavy rains, which began at the end of October, have severely affected the south and central regions of the country, flooding well-known tourist destinations. Rainfall amounts have exceeded 1,900 mm in some areas. Dak Lak province has been the hardest hit, with over 60 deaths and tens of thousands of homes flooded. Rescuers have intervened with boats to help isolated locals, and the government has mobilized forces for evacuating people. The floods have caused estimated economic damages of 341 million dollars, affecting over 235,000 homes and nearly 80,000 hectares of crops. Extreme weather phenomena have led to the death or disappearance of 279 people in the first ten months of the year, and researchers warn that climate change exacerbates these events.
