On Sunday, flights to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) were suspended by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) due to a staffing shortage at an air traffic control unit in Southern California.
This measure was taken in the context of the federal administration shutdown, which led to the non-payment of air traffic controllers.
U.S. Secretary of Transportation, Sean Duffy, warned that passengers will face delays and cancellations in the coming days as more controllers report being sick due to financial stress. The FAA suspended flights to Los Angeles starting at 11:42 AM, causing delays of approximately one hour and 40 minutes. The staffing shortage has also affected other airports, including Newark Liberty and Southwest Florida.
