The Romanian Administration of Air Traffic Services (ROMATSA) is in a critical situation after Eurocontrol notified it regarding a precautionary seizure initiated by Pfizer Romania SRL, which claims an amount of 3.42 billion lei. This measure could lead to the suspension of ROMATSA's activities, generating major vulnerabilities for air traffic safety and affecting NATO missions on the eastern flank.
ROMATSA stated that it has limited financial resources, sufficient only for a few weeks, and the route fees collected through Eurocontrol represent 85% of its revenues. Additionally, the agency has initiated legal proceedings in Belgium to contest the seizure measure. This is the third blocking of ROMATSA's accounts, following previous cases related to the Micula brothers. The issue has also reached the attention of the Supreme Council of National Defense, which highlighted the risks to national security.
