<p>The Finnish government has announced that it will keep its eastern border with Russia closed, blocked since December 2023, because of the risks of instrumentalized migration. This has been triggered by the arrival of visa-free migrants from various countries, and Helsinki accuses Moscow of using migration as a reaction to Finland's NATO membership. The Finnish executive will regularly assess the situation and may change the measure if there is no longer a threat to national security. A law has also been proposed to allow the rejection of asylum seekers in certain circumstances, sparking controversy over respect for human rights.
