The Finnish defense forces announced on Tuesday the closure of a part of the airspace and maritime traffic near the southern coast, close to the border with Russia, due to the risks associated with stray drones. The army spokesperson stated that this measure is a precaution to ensure the safety of passersby and to allow authorities to respond effectively in case drones enter Finnish airspace.
The General Staff of Finland emphasized that the restrictions are necessary to combat drones safely, if the situation requires it. These restrictions are not new, the most recent one being imposed on July 10 in the eastern Gulf of Finland, in the context of Ukraine's drone attacks on Russia.
