The Russian government announced through a decree published on Tuesday the closure of seven railway border crossing points with Finland, Estonia, and Latvia, with the measure coming into effect on July 1. This decision suspends the transit of people, vehicles, and goods through the affected points, five of which are located at the border with Finland, and one each at the borders with Estonia and Latvia.

The Russian authorities did not provide explanations for this measure and did not specify the duration of the closure. However, the crossing point at Ivangorod in Estonia and the one at Sebezh in Latvia will remain operational for the transport of goods and passengers. Following these restrictions, Finland no longer has direct railway connections with Russia, affecting Russian exports of fertilizers.
