An explosion occurred on Tuesday in front of a mall in Guayaquil, the largest city in Ecuador, resulting in the death of one person and injuries to others, according to the prosecutor's announcement. A second vehicle, which contained explosives, was discovered nearby but did not detonate and was neutralized by authorities. Interior Minister John Reimberg stated that the devices were professionally manufactured by criminal groups to create chaos.
Surveillance images showed the vehicle catching fire before the explosion. The governor of Guayas province, Humberto Plaza, promised that the perpetrators of this act of terrorism would be captured and severely judged. Authorities have urged residents to avoid the area while the investigation is ongoing. Guayaquil is facing increased violence, and Tuesday's incident follows a similar attack from last month.
