Eight corpses were discovered in an illegal mine in the Azuay province, in southern Ecuador, and police found that the victims had been dismembered and decapitated. The bodies were found buried at a depth of about two meters, and investigators believe the victims were killed about two days ago. Their identities have not yet been established. The area is affected by illegal copper mining activities and is largely controlled by the Los Lobos clan, one of the most powerful criminal groups in Ecuador.
