Three men have each been sentenced in Mexico to 158 years and nine months in prison for killing two Australian brothers and their American friend during a surfing trip in Baja California in April 2024.
Jesus Gerardo, known as “El Kekas,” Irineo Francisco and Angel Jesus were found guilty of homicide, aggravated robbery, robbery with violence and car theft with violence. Prosecutors say the victims were attacked during an alleged robbery.
Brothers Jake and Callum Robinson and American Carter Rhoad were traveling through Mexico and had pitched their tent in an isolated coastal area near Ensenada on April 27, 2024. Their bodies were found several days later in a well at the top of a cliff. The victims had gunshot wounds to the head.
The families of those killed followed the sentencing via videoconference. The Robinson brothers’ parents traveled from Australia to Ensenada for the trial, which began on September 7. The judge rejected prosecutors’ request for more than $100,000 in compensation, stating that it could be sought through civil proceedings.
The Robinson family established a foundation in memory of the two brothers to continue their legacy.
