A powerful explosion at a subway station in Barcelona injured 8 people, of which two are in serious condition.

A powerful explosion occurred on Wednesday evening at the L5 metro station in Plaça de Sants, Barcelona, injuring eight people, two of whom are in serious condition. The incident was caused by a gas leak that occurred during the modernization works of the station.

The explosion generated a large fire, with flames continuing to burn into the following day. Firefighters stated that the fire will persist for several hours or days, as the gas supply cannot be stopped until the emergency works are completed.

All the injured were workers who were intervening at the damaged pipeline. Among them, two people were hospitalized at Vall d'Hebron Hospital with serious injuries, while another two suffered moderate injuries.

The area has been isolated, and road traffic has been reorganized to ensure safety. Authorities continue to monitor the situation and intervene to control the fire.
