On July 22, the European Union and the United Kingdom will meet in Brussels for a summit aimed at renewing post-Brexit relations, according to an announcement made by the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, and British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer. This will be the second post-Brexit summit, following the one in London in May 2025. Antonio Costa emphasized the importance of close cooperation between the two entities for European security and prosperity. Prime Minister Starmer stated that his Labour government is committed to renewing the relationship with the EU, addressing issues such as the cost of living and job creation. Although his government came to power in 2024 with the aim of getting closer to the EU, red lines have been established, including the non-acceptance of returning to the single market or the Customs Union. Negotiations between London and Brussels remain complex and turbulent.
