In the recently published annual assessment, the Danish Defence Intelligence Service (DDIS) included the United States for the first time on the list of threats to national security. The report emphasizes that the US uses economic and technological power to influence allies, including through threats of military force.
It also mentions the growing rivalry among great powers, especially in the Arctic, a strategic region for Denmark, which controls Greenland's foreign policy. DDIS warns about espionage and influence within the components of the Kingdom of Denmark, in the context of tensions between the US and Denmark, heightened by Trump's statements regarding Greenland.
However, the head of DDIS reaffirmed that the US remains Denmark's closest ally, highlighting their importance in European security. The report suggests that the uncertainty of the US role as a guarantor of European security could intensify hybrid attacks from Russia against NATO.
