The former NATO Secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg, stated that the United States continues to be heavily dependent on its European allies, regardless of the rhetoric from Washington.

In an interview with the German newspaper Die Welt, Stoltenberg emphasized that U.S. defense begins at the border between Europe and Russia, mentioning the nuclear threats from the Kola Peninsula, Russia. He explained that Norway plays an essential role in monitoring Russian submarines and providing early warnings about missiles and aircraft, thus contributing to the security of the United States.

Although there are differences of opinion between the U.S. and Europe on issues such as trade and climate, Stoltenberg highlighted the importance of European investments in defense, mentioning that Germany is becoming the largest European investor in this field.
