The Danish counterintelligence service warns of possible acts of Russian sabotage targeting companies in the defense industry

Russian security services are preparing acts of sabotage against Danish companies in the defense industry, particularly those involved in providing military support to Ukraine, Emil Graesholm, head of the counterintelligence service within the Danish security agency, said in an interview with Berlingske.

The official warned that the plans are concrete enough for the threat to be taken seriously and urged the companies concerned to strengthen their security measures.

Among the targets are reportedly firms that supply equipment or services for military aid destined for Ukraine.

Graesholm claims that Russian services are also attempting to recruit Danish citizens to collect information about factories and companies. They would be asked to check access routes and security conditions around the sites.

The Danish service had warned as early as May 2024 that the risk of physical acts of sabotage attributed to Russia had increased in Denmark and other European countries.

The warning comes after the German Interior Minister accused Russia of involvement in a hybrid attack in Leipzig on August 4, when a drone carrying explosives was identified near a Ukrainian aircraft.

European leaders condemned the incident and warned of an intensification of Russian hybrid tactics.
