Last year, the Czech Republic selected the South Korean group KHNP to build two 1,000-megawatt reactors at the Dukovany nuclear power plant. The Czech government has decided to take an 80% stake in the project company EDU II to financially support the construction. CEZ, the company in charge of the project, is facing challenges from the French group EDF, but is continuing preparations for the project. The estimated cost of the reactors is 407 billion Czech crowns and the price of electricity will be guaranteed by the state. EDF's challenge was rejected by the Czech Competition Council, and CEZ expects the courts to uphold the legality of the tender.
