Nuclearelectrica has announced that it will not seek new mini-reactor technologies, after shareholders rejected, during the AGA on July 15, the proposal to reevaluate the Implementation Strategy for the Small Modular Reactors (SMR) Project at Doicești, where it collaborates with NuScale. The decision was made with the vote of the Ministry of Energy, the majority shareholder.

Nuclearelectrica will continue the initial strategy from September 2022, despite the proposal to expand the analysis to other SMR technologies. The establishment of a foundation that would have facilitated the attraction of European funds for professional training was also rejected. Nuclearelectrica believes that the rejection of these proposals represents a missed opportunity for the nuclear sector.

The project at Doicești is stalled, and negotiations with NuScale continue to reach a commercial consensus. The company emphasizes that failing to meet the feasibility conditions could render the project unfeasible.

The project is valued at about 7 billion euros and involves the construction of 6 modules with a total capacity of 462 MW.
