Canada has announced a $1.827 billion aid package for Ukraine, aimed at reconstruction, thus allowing Kyiv to access $8.4 billion in loans from the International Monetary Fund. The announcement was made by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney following a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, before a scheduled meeting with American President Donald Trump.
The aid will be provided in the form of strategic financial instruments, including a debt suspension of up to 1.5 billion Canadian dollars until 2026. Canada will also provide loan guarantees of 1.3 billion Canadian dollars to the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, as well as 322 million Canadian dollars to the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, to support gas imports and Ukraine's energy security. Since the beginning of the Russian invasion, Canada has provided Ukraine with aid worth nearly 22 billion Canadian dollars.
