The German insurance group Allianz has announced that it will reduce between 1,500 and 1,800 jobs in its travel insurance division, particularly in call centers, amid the increasing use of artificial intelligence that replaces manual processes. The cuts, which could affect up to 8% of the company's employees, will focus on subsidiaries in Germany, France, and other European countries. Allianz Partners, which has 22,600 employees, mentioned that approximately 14,000 of them handle customer requests over the phone. The company stated that it is analyzing the impact of technologies on employees and that internal discussions are ongoing. Allianz has reported positive results in customer assistance through chatbots, highlighting the general trend of companies to reduce staff due to digitization and automation. Recently, other companies, such as Lufthansa and HP, have announced significant staff reductions for similar reasons.
