The interim regional director of UNICEF for the Middle East and North Africa, Abdul Fofana, announced that the toll of children killed or injured in Iran due to the conflict generated by the United States and Israel has reached 2,500.

In the last five months, over 4,000 children have been affected in six countries in the Middle East, including 2,500 in Iran, comprising 386 children killed and 2,117 injured. Fofana emphasized that, although the war continues, it is the children who suffer the most, being exposed to violence in places that should be safe, such as homes and schools.

A recent incident on Qeshm Island, where a two-year-old child died in an airstrike, highlights the severity of the situation. UNICEF has called on the parties involved in the conflict to respect international humanitarian law and to protect children, emphasizing that they should not pay the price for the horrors of war.
