The Iranian army has announced financial rewards for people who kill or capture American soldiers who enter Iranian territory, according to a statement made by army spokesperson Amir Akraminia and reported on Wednesday by dpa, as carried by Agerpres.
The Iranian official stated that anyone who kills an American serviceman who enters Iran “as an aggressor” and hands the body over to the authorities, or captures the soldier alive, will receive money. The announced reward is the equivalent of approximately 17,500 euros for men and 35,000 euros for women.
The statement comes against the backdrop of the conflict between Iran, on the one hand, and the United States and Israel, on the other. According to the report, the two countries launched extensive airstrikes against Iran at the end of February, and the conflict continues while negotiations have been stalled for several months.
One of the main points of dispute concerns control over the Strait of Hormuz, an essential route for the global transport of hydrocarbons. In this context, speculation has also emerged about the possibility of a limited American ground military operation in Iran.
