Greenpeace France has called for a ban on hexane, a solvent used in the extraction of vegetable oils, from the food industry, citing health risks. A report by the organization identified hexane residues in 36 out of 56 tested products, including oils and powdered milk for infants. Although the quantities are below regulated limits, Greenpeace believes that current regulations are outdated. The European Commission has begun a reevaluation of the safety of hexane, and a parliamentary committee in France will analyze its impact on health.
